Tariq Lamptey joins QPR after leaving Fiorentina

Queens Park Rangers have signed Tariq Lamptey on a permanent deal. The Ghana international arrived without a transfer fee after leaving Fiorentina. He returns to English football with experience in the Premier League, Serie A and international competition.

The 25-year-old can play at right-back or right wing-back. His pace gives QPR another option on the flank. The club confirmed the completed transfer after Lamptey joined his new teammates.

A return to familiar football

Lamptey developed at Chelsea before making his senior debut for the London club. He later moved to Brighton and played regularly in the Premier League. That period established him as an attacking full-back with quick acceleration.

His time in England also included several injury interruptions. He returned after each absence and continued working in wide defensive roles. QPR will now manage his training within a new squad and a different league programme.

The move returns Lamptey to the country where his senior career began. He played for Chelsea and Brighton before moving to Fiorentina. QPR therefore add a defender with several seasons of English experience.

Chelsea gave Lamptey his senior debut after his academy years. Brighton then made him a regular Premier League player. His new club is in London, where that professional path first started.

His Fiorentina spell added another perspective

Lamptey left Brighton for Fiorentina and gained experience in Italy. Serie A placed different demands on positioning and patient build-up. He has now ended that spell and signed for QPR as a free agent.

No selling club receives a transfer fee in a free move. QPR can still have normal contract and registration costs. The important sporting fact is that the right-back is available after completing his Fiorentina exit.

Fiorentina added Serie A to Lamptey’s earlier Premier League record. The spell was his first senior club experience outside England. It ended before QPR completed the free transfer.

QPR announced him as a defender who can cover the right side. His earlier clubs used him at right-back and wing-back. The signing adds both roles without assigning him a guaranteed starting place.

Speed can change the right side

Lamptey’s pace has been a visible feature throughout his senior career. It allowed him to cover wide areas for Brighton, Fiorentina and Ghana. QPR highlighted that experience when presenting their new defender.

He has played in domestic leagues and international qualifiers. Those competitions brought different opponents without changing his main place on the right. The transfer gives QPR an experienced option in that area.

The completed deal follows the end of Lamptey’s Fiorentina spell. QPR did not pay a transfer fee to an owning club. The club presented him after registration and the normal signing process were completed.

Leeds used a similar long-term approach when the club signed another young defender. The Tarik Muharemovic transfer also brought a player to England after senior football abroad.

Ghana adds international experience

Lamptey represents Ghana at senior level. International matches have taken him into different systems and high-pressure qualifying games. They also require rapid adjustment because national teams have less training time.

Ghana added senior international football to his club record. Lamptey has travelled for qualifying matches and played against opponents outside European league competition. QPR now add that experience to the squad.

His last international selection and his new club role are separate matters. The transfer confirms only his move to QPR. Ghana will make later squad choices through its normal selection process.

His background also includes England youth football before he chose Ghana at senior level. The two pathways exposed him to strong coaching environments from an early age. He now brings that education into a new dressing room.

Lamptey returns to English club football
